Exam 70-680

TS: Windows 7, Configuring

The 70-680 exam is the first Windows 7 exam.  When you pass this exam, you will earn the Microsoft Certified Technical Specialist (MCTS) certification on Windows 7.

Don't be mistaken though.  Even though this is the first exam, there is a lot to it.  Just using Windows 7 isn't enough to pass this exam, even if you're a power user.

You're expected to be able to be able to:

  • Install, deploy, and upgrade to Windows 7, including ensuring hardware and software compatibility
  • Configure pre-installation and post-installation system settings, Windows security features, network connectivity applications included with Windows 7, and mobile computing
  • Maintain systems, including monitoring for and resolving performance and reliability issues
  • Have a basic understanding of Windows PowerShell syntax

The Windows 7 Desktop Support and Administration: Real World Skills for MCITP Certification and Beyond (Exams 70-685 and 70-686) book is now available.  It is a real-world guide for administrators on the job and also covers the objectives for the 70-685 and 70-686 exams.

While this book isn't a beginner's book, it does indirectly cover many of the objectives related to the 70-680 exam.

This page has additional resources for the 70-685 and 70-686 exams for test takers.

The 70-680 exam also gives you credit for several MCITP certifications:
  • MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Administrator 7
  • MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Support Technician 7
  • MCITP: Enterprise Administrator

Even though this is only a MCTS exam, don't take it lightly.  You'll need to put in some time to pass it.
